When John Shaw Billings left the Army in 1895 to become first a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and shortly thereafter the director of the New York Public Library, he took with him many of his personal and professional papers.
Lawrence Kolb Papers
Dr. Lawrence Kolb was a pioneer in the medical approach to narcotics addiction treatment and in public health research and treatment of mental illness. He was one of the first to advocate treating drug addicts as patients, not criminals. The collection deals chiefly with the subjects of drug addiction, alcoholism, juvenile delinquency, and mental health.
Louis I. Dublin Papers
Dr. Dublin, vice president and statistician of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, was with that institution from 1909-52. A sizable portion of the collection consists of material relating to Dr. Dublin's publications.
Stanhope Bayne-Jones Papers
Subjects include family background, education, service in World War I and II, Dr. Bayne-Jones' association with the Johns Hopkins University Medical School, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Yale University School of Medicine, New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, Tulane University School of Medicine, U. S. Army Surgeon General's Office, and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Thomas B. Marquis Papers
Dr. Marquis practiced medicine in Montana, was with the U. S. Medical Corps during World War I, and became government physician on the Tongue River-Cheyenne Indian reservation. Because of his interest in Indian subjects he eventually gave up his medical practice and devoted full time to gathering historical data and writing.
