Abstract Dr. George M. Kober was acting Assistant Surgeon in the U. S. Army from 1874-86, and in 1890 became Professor of Hygiene at the Georgetown Medical School. Dr. Lawrence Kolb was a pioneer in the medical approach to narcotics addiction treatment and in public health research and treatment of mental illness. He was one of the first to advocate treating drug addicts as patients, not criminals. Thomas B. Marquis Papers

Dr. Marquis practiced medicine in Montana, was with the U. S. Medical Corps during World War I, and became government physician on the Tongue River-Cheyenne Indian reservation.
